Section Happenings Newsletter
edited by George Tranos N2GA
NLI Section Manager

April  2001 Welcome!  This is the second monthly NY City / Long Island "ehappenings"
Section newsletter!  This newsletter is here to serve the Amateur Radio
community in our area.  I welcome and encourage all submissions.  Please
help make this your newsletter!  I especially encourage officers of the area's
Amateur Radio clubs to submit their meeting announcements, guest speakers
and special events.  This is the second of a regular monthly series of Section
newsletters.

QST Section News

The QST Section News column for June 2001 is due on April 12.  If you or
your club has anything which you feel is of interest to the other members in the
section, please contact me before April 12.

NLI Section Staff Meeting - the semiannual meeting of the NLI section staff
was held on Sunday, March 18, 2001, in the ARES/RACES room at Babylon Town
Hall on Sunrise Highway in North Lindenhurst. The representatives of the
ARRL programs in our section were there to discuss the workings of their program.

Attending Section staff were: N2GA, KA2D, K2DO, N2MUN, W2FX, N1XL, K2YEW, KB2SCS, WA2WKV, WA2YOW, K2LJH and N2NFI. will be Sunday, September 30, 2001.

New York Makes Another Attempt at Ham Antenna Bill - True to their word,
supporters of an Amateur Radio antenna bill in the State of New York are
back this year with new bills introduced in both houses of the legislature. ARRL
Hudson Division Director Frank Fallon, N2FF, says measures to incorporate
the essence of the limited federal preemption known as PRB-1 into state law have
been filed in the Senate as S.2893, with four sponsors, and in the Assembly
as A.1565.  Please write your State Assemblyman and State Senator asking for
their support of this important legislation.  Full story available at
http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2001/03/20/3/?nc=1

DXCC Card Checking Available in our section - Emil Tillona KD1F has been
designated as a field checker of DXCC applications.  Emil can check both new
applications and updates.  Emil can be reached via e-mail at kd1f@arrl.net
or by snail mail at Emil Tillona KD1F, 19 Dorchester Ct, Farmingville, NY

Fort Hamilton 176th Anniversary Special Event - On June 10, the Kings County
Repeater Association will operate club station WA2ZWP on 14.243, 21.343,
28.343 to celebrate the 176th Anniversary of Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn. For

ARRL Field Day - is the weekend of June 22, 23 and 24, 2001.
Many clubs will have Field Day sites - send your info to me for
listing in a future e-happening newsletter!

Hudson Division Beacon e-mail newsletter unveiled - ARRL Hudson Division
Director Frank Fallon N2FF has recently introduced a monthly Division
newsletter. The initial Beacon was just delivered and looks great!  It's
coverage area is all three sections of the Hudson Division - NY City / Long
Island, Northern New Jersey and Eastern New York.  If you have anything of
interest to the entire division, please e-mail Frank at n2ff@arrl.org and
he'll try to include it.

Local Government Liaisons needed - I am looking for a few good men and women
to serve in the LGL appointment.  A Local Government Liaison serves in their
local area as the "eyes and ears" for Amateur Radio.  They are on the lookout
for Amateur Radio zoning ordinances and other laws and regulations which may
affect Amateur Radio.  LGL's are needed in all areas and there should be one
assigned for each Amateur Radio club!  New LGL's will help will the NY State
PRB-1 bill to encourage hams to write letters and keep the campaign rolling.
Contact Section Manager George Tranos N2GA (n2ga@arrl.org) for more
information or to apply.
